Half Day Visit To San Gil

Leave for San Gil, located 2hrs from Bucaramanga and 30mins from Barichara. Visit the renowned Santander Tourism Capital due to its geographical location and for being the epicenter of all adventure sports in Colombia. Canoeing, rafting, hiking, caving, rappel and paragliding are just some of the various possibilities available here in San Gil and its surrounding area. Tour begins on-foot in the town’s centre at Liberty Park, The Cathedral, House of Culture; San Francisco chapel, the traditional-market building where there are many produce from the region on display such as fruit and baked goods. Later, visit Gallineral Park alongside Fonce River rapids.

Caving

Leave for jump-off point located 25min from San Gil. On arrival, 5min-walk to cave’s entry-point known as “Indian Cave” with a freshwater stream inside. After a technical chat and equipment check, begin exploring the cave. The first part of the adventure is done in upright position as there is water and the passages can be narrow as one crosses huge caverns populated with bats that fly around.

To leave the cave, a 5mts drop-down jump into a small pool is required, taking you along the river and over a distance of 2km before a walk up-and-out towards the main square of ‘El Paramo’ town where transport awaits to return to hotel.

Ecological Walk To Juan Curi Waterfalls

Leave from San Gil or Barichara for 40min-drive to Charalá, a typical Santanderean town so-called to honor Guane Cacique [Chief] “Chalala”.

From here, the spectacular over 200mt-height waterfall is visible and the hike begins in the open and sunny pathway towards the torrents of water that flow along the Juan Curí River. After 30min, the pathway enters the forests and the landscape changes. There is abundance of nature and a 5mt-deep natural pool formed by the waterfall where bathing is possible. This is a natural place where you can replenish energy and for adventure-sports lovers there’s also rappel.

Full Day Visit To Chicamocha National Park

Leave for theme-park that makes part of Chicamocha National Park, located within 30min. drive from San Gil to Bucaramanga. The natural wonder Chicamocha Canyon and River running at the bottom, which created the second-largest canyon in the world.

The park extends for approximately 342 hectares. The heat smoothed only by a refreshing breeze is ideal for hiking and trekking the pathways and trails which lead to various attractions in this rugged, unique terrain. A cable-car runs for 6,3km over the canyon for 30min, one of the largest and longest cable-car rides in the world. Inside the park it’s worth visiting "Santander town" replica, Guane Museum, Monument to Santaderean culture, the Viewpoint and the Goat and Ostrich parks.

Half Day Rafting

Leave from pier on riverbanks of Fonce River located 30min. from San Gil or Barichara. After a short walk to jump-off point, receive technical briefing, and begin rafting.

The trip takes place on an inflatable boat downstream a freshwater-river. The average gradient-descent is 7percent with no major changes. Over the course of 1.5hrs and a distance of 9km this adventure will cover strong rapids (Grade III) in the first section, calm waters in the second and end with Grade II rapids before arriving at San Gil Country Club opposite ‘Gallineral’ Park. During the whole expedition riverside forest and typical Santanderean landscapes can be appreciated.
