Afternoon In The Rancherias

Leave from Riohacha to visit an authentic and traditional wayuu indigenous community to learn about and experience their lifestyle and cultural practices. Observe the wooden structures that are traditional of Wayuu dwellings and listen to their traditions, native customs, myths and legends.

Appreciate their woven colorful handcrafts hammocks and "mochilas – woolen bags" of resounding beauty and artistry and their Yonna dance while sipping some rum.

Full Day Tour To "Cabo de La Vela"

Have breakfast, head northwest from Riohacha to "Cabo de la Vela" (180 km, 4hrs approx.), remote fishing village along the Guajira peninsula tip. Break after 60km to visit salt flats at Manaure. Later in Uribia, the indigenous capital, see Wayuu artistry and handcrafts, hammocks and 'mochilas – woolen bags' are on display. Continue trip through desert following the road alongside railway tracks, on which freight-trains haul tons of coal from "El Cerrejon" mine for export. The road leads-off into the desert passing Wayuu "rancherias" and plenty of cacti.

After lunch, travel to "El Faro" viewpoint where a lighthouse beams-out over the sea for fantastic sunset views. Continue to "Pilón de Azúcar" beach, where golden sands are lapped by the blue sea. Return to Riohacha.

Half Day Santuario De Flora y Fauna de Flamencos Rosados

Half-day visit to the Flamingos Flora and Fauna Sanctuary located approx. 20km from Riohacha in the municipality of "Camarones", a territory that in the past belonged to the "Guanebucanes" indigenous tribe. This is an important lagoon ecosystem for spotting the pink ibis, pink colored flamingos and it also has beautiful beaches. In a traditional fishing boat the trip continues to the "Environmental Education and Research Center" for the lecture on marine turtles which are an endangered species, and are freed into the wilderness once they have grown to an age that they can survive on their own.
