LA MACARENA WEATHER

In the heart of the Sierra de La Macarena National Natural Park, in the department of Meta, lies Caño Cristales, often regarded as one of the most beautiful rivers in the world. Its uniqueness comes from a natural phenomenon that colors its waters in vivid shades of red, yellow, green, blue, and black, created by the aquatic plant Macarenia clavigera that blooms between June and November in the season of colors. This spectacle blends with waterfalls, natural pools, and rock formations that tell the geological story of the region.

Located at the meeting point of the Amazon, Andes, and Orinoquía regions, Caño Cristales is also a sanctuary of biodiversity. With an average temperature of 27°C, its surroundings are home to tapirs, howler monkeys, macaws, as well as a wide variety of fish and orchids. Its proximity to the town of La Macarena makes it easily accessible, allowing visitors to combine their exploration of the river with interpretive trails, birdwatching, and community-led experiences.

During the dry season, from December to March, although the river does not display its famous colors, travelers can still enjoy remarkable activities such as hiking to Ciudad de Piedra, discovering ancient petroglyphs, and exploring unique landscapes that highlight the natural beauty of the region. This makes La Macarena a destination worth visiting almost all year round.
More than just a tourist destination, Caño Cristales stands as a symbol of conservation and peace, reflecting the rebirth of territories once affected by conflict, now welcoming travelers to discover the natural and cultural wealth of this unique Colombian region.
