GUAVIARE WEATHER

San José del Guaviare is the gateway to the Colombian Amazon and a meeting point between the jungle, the savanna, and the Guaviare River. Located in the north of the department, on the banks of the majestic river that bears its name, it enjoys an average temperature of 24 °C. Its privileged location makes it a place of unique biodiversity, where Amazonian, Andean, and Orinoquian ecosystems converge.

The surroundings hold extraordinary archaeological and natural treasures, including the rock paintings of the Serranía de La Lindosa, silent witnesses to more than 10,000 years of human history. Sites such as Cerro Azul and Nuevo Tolima reveal vast rock walls covered with ancient pictographs depicting animals, human figures, and spiritual symbols, offering one of the most impressive open-air galleries of prehistoric art in South America. The landscape is further shaped by striking rocky formations like the Puerta de Orión, a natural arch over 12 meters high that frames the sky like a sacred observatory at sunset, and the Ciudad de Piedra, a labyrinth of stone passages and towers where imagination blends with legend. The powerful Raudal del Guayabero, with its rushing waters and dramatic rock outcrops, adds a sense of raw energy to the region, showcasing the untamed force of the Amazonian rivers.

Local communities, many of them indigenous, share their knowledge of the flora, fauna, and ancestral traditions, offering an authentic connection to the living culture of the territory. San José del Guaviare is also a destination for adventure: navigating the river, discovering Caño Sabana, the colorful “river of colors” near the Finca Trankilandia where the aquatic plant Macarenia clavigera paints the riverbed with vibrant hues during the rainy season, encountering river dolphins, or birdwatching deep in the rainforest. It is a place where nature, history, and culture intertwine, inviting travelers to experience one of Colombia’s most biodiverse and captivating regions.
